Jupiter Wagons Ltd (JWL), in collaboration with Tatravagonka a.s., has officially launched the Jupiter Tatravagonka Railwheel Factory at the Shendra Five Star Industrial Area in Chhatrapati Sambhajinagar (Aurangabad).

This facility, formerly known as Bonatrans India, is the result of JWL’s recent acquisition of Bonatrans India earlier this year, marking a significant milestone in JWL’s journey to becoming a global supplier of wheelsets for the railway industry.

This new facility is the first in India capable of producing railway wheelsets domestically, both for the Indian market and for export. With an initial production capacity of 1,000 wheelsets per month, JWL aims to scale up to 5,000 per month over the next two years.

The goal is to reduce India’s reliance on imported wheelsets while meeting the growing demand in both domestic and international markets. JWL also announced a strategic partnership with Schuler India, which will provide advanced forging machinery to boost the plant’s capabilities.

This collaboration will help enhance production efficiency, enabling JWL to meet both local and global demand for high-quality rail components. During the inauguration, senior executives from Jupiter Wagons, Tatravagonka a.s., Schuler India, and Andritz emphasized the importance of the partnership and the potential for future growth.

Vivek Lohia, Managing Director of Jupiter Wagons, highlighted the significance of the acquisition, stating, “The acquisition of Bonatrans is a game-changer for us. It enables us to build a complete supply chain for rail components right here in India. Traditionally, we have relied on imports for critical components, but with this plant, we now have the capability to manufacture them domestically at scale. This facility represents our commitment to advancing rail wheel and axle manufacturing in India, paving the way for self-reliance and positioning India as a key supplier to global markets.”

Lohia also emphasized the importance of the company’s partnership with Schuler India, noting that the advanced forging technology will allow JWL to produce world-class wheelsets for projects like metro systems and Vande Bharat trains, as well as for international markets.

With all necessary certifications in place, the Jupiter Tatravagonka Railwheel Factory is poised to support high-profile rail projects both in India and abroad. This facility marks a significant step towards building an independent and scalable rail manufacturing ecosystem in India.
