JSW Steel announced the operational commencement of a hot strip mill at its integrated steel plant located in Vijayanagar, Karnataka. This significant development marks a milestone for the company, as it signifies the start of production and dispatch of steel products from the newly established mill. The mill boasts an impressive annual capacity of 5 million tonnes (MT), as stated in an official filing by JSW Steel.

The subsidiary responsible for this achievement, JSW Vijayanagar Metallics Ltd (JVML), has successfully commissioned the hot strip mill (HSM) at the Vijayanagar plant. This accomplishment not only underscores JSW Steel’s commitment to enhancing its production capabilities but also signifies a significant step towards meeting the growing demand for steel products in the region.

JSW Steel’s HSM facility boasts cutting-edge capabilities for producing plates and coils, highlighted by its state-of-the-art digital reheating furnaces, efficient evaporative cooling system, and innovative waste heat recovery system. The facility, which was ceremoniously lit up on March 17, 2024, has undergone rigorous trial runs and comprehensive quality and delivery testing.

Following these successful tests, the facility has now commenced commercial manufacturing and sales operations, marking a significant milestone for the company.
