JSW Steel Coated Products Ltd (JSWSCPL) has awarded John Cockerill India Limited a major contract for the engineering, design, manufacture, and supply of a next-generation Cold Rolling Complex at Rajpura, Punjab. The facility, with an annual production capacity of nearly 600,000 tonnes, marks a significant step in JSWSCPL’s expansion strategy aimed at strengthening its value-added steel portfolio in India.
The project encompasses complete engineering, manufacturing, supply, erection supervision, commissioning support, and operator training. The new complex is scheduled for completion by 2028 and is expected to enhance JSWSCPL’s manufacturing capabilities across automotive, appliance, and construction-grade coated steel products.
The Cold Rolling Complex will integrate advanced processing technologies designed to improve operational efficiency, product quality, and environmental performance. The facility will include a Semi-Continuous Pickling Line (PPL), a Twin Stand Cold Rolling Mill (CRM), and a Continuous Galvanizing Line (GI/GL), each equipped with modern automation and process control systems.
The Semi-Continuous Pickling Line will operate at speeds of up to 200 meters per minute and incorporate six tanks, a turret-type edge trimmer, and advanced process control technologies. The line will also feature a cascading hydrochloric acid regeneration system aimed at reducing acid consumption and minimizing environmental impact while maintaining high-quality output standards. The project leverages John Cockerill’s global experience in delivering more than 50 pickling lines worldwide.
The Twin Stand Cold Rolling Mill will feature a 6-high configuration capable of processing high-strength steel grades up to 800 MPa tensile strength. Designed for speeds reaching 1,500 meters per minute, the mill will include advanced mill management systems to ensure precise thickness control, superior surface finish, optimized yield, and reliable operational performance. This installation will be the third Twin Stand mill delivered by John Cockerill within the JSW Group.
The Continuous Galvanizing Line will incorporate non-oxidation vertical furnace technology, inline skin pass mills, tension levellers, and advanced coating systems. The facility will support a broad range of galvanized and galvalume products with high production throughput, reinforcing JSWSCPL’s ability to meet growing demand for premium coated steel solutions.

He noted that the integration of advanced processing technologies with sustainable manufacturing practices would help deliver superior product quality, operational reliability, and long-term value creation for the Indian steel sector.
The investment further strengthens JSWSCPL’s position as a leading manufacturer of coated steel products while reinforcing John Cockerill India’s role as a key technology partner for the global steel industry. JSW Steel has committed to reducing carbon dioxide emissions from steelmaking operations by 42 percent by 2030 and achieving net-neutral carbon emissions across all directly controlled operations by 2050. The company is additionally working toward powering steelmaking operations entirely through renewable energy sources by 2030.
