JSW Steel, India’s largest steel manufacturer, has earned the prestigious ResponsibleSteel™ certification for four of its production facilities, marking a significant milestone in its commitment to sustainable business practices. This achievement recognizes the company’s dedication to responsible operations across its plants in Vijayanagar (Karnataka), Dolvi and Tarapur (Maharashtra), and Salem (Tamil Nadu).

As a result, over 80% of JSW Steel’s primary steel production is now certified by ResponsibleSteel™, with the Tarapur plant being the first downstream rolling mill in India to achieve this recognition. ResponsibleSteel™ is the steel industry’s first global multi-stakeholder certification initiative, aimed at promoting sustainability across the sector by addressing issues such as responsible sourcing, climate change, human rights, and environmental stewardship.

Jayant Acharya, Joint Managing Director and CEO of JSW Steel, expressed, “Receiving ResponsibleSteel certification for four of our sites in one go reflects our dedication to addressing global challenges while fostering a sustainable future. We are proud of our strong foundation for responsible growth and remain committed to contributing to India’s goal of becoming a developed nation by 2047.”

Annie Heaton, CEO of ResponsibleSteel, congratulated JSW Steel for its leadership in adopting international standards that not only focus on emissions but also on a range of environmental and social concerns. She added, “JSW is leading the way in India’s steel sector transformation towards sustainable practices, with these certifications covering nearly 30% of India’s steel production capacity.”
