JSW Group, which already collaborates with China’s SAIC in the electric vehicle (EV) space, is planning to broaden its mobility portfolio by venturing into electric buses, trucks, cars, and battery manufacturing. The company is actively engaging with multiple technology partners to achieve these goals.

“Despite what competitors are doing, the efforts in new energy vehicles are still insufficient. JSW is committed to entering this space, focusing on buses, trucks, and cars. We are also investing in Aurangabad for the JSW mobility business,” said Parth Jindal, Director, JSW MG Motor India, during the Bharat Mobility Global Expo.

The group is set to invest approximately $1 billion to launch an independent range of EVs, including cars, trucks, and buses under the JSW brand. JSW is considering establishing a new manufacturing facility in Odisha, while work has already commenced at its Aurangabad site.

“We’re not moving operations away from Odisha but keeping it as an open option for future investments. However, it will take over two years to materialize. As a group, we continuously explore opportunities in various states,” Jindal added.

JSW’s joint venture with MG Motor continues to show promise, according to Jindal. “With JSW MG, we’ve only scratched the surface. The joint venture holds significant potential in India. Currently, we have a 1.5% market share, but JSW aims to be among the top three players in any industry we operate in,” he said.

The company’s vision includes becoming a leader in new energy vehicles while scaling its operations. “We are not looking for equity partners but rather technology partners to realize our ambitions. With JSW MG and our broader mobility initiatives, we aim to seize the large opportunity in this sector,” Jindal concluded.
