JSW Group has committed to investing Rs 1.5 lakh crore in the Vidarbha region, as revealed by Chairman and Managing Director, Sajjan Jindal, at an industry event. This investment is part of the larger commitment the group made to Maharashtra at the World Economic Forum in Davos last month.

A significant portion of this investment will be directed towards the establishment of a new steel plant in Vidarbha. “We will set up a 25 MTPA (million tonne per annum) steel plant in this region, which will not only be the largest in the world but also the most environmentally friendly,” Jindal announced at the Invest Vidarbha 2025 event. The steel plant, located in Gadchiroli, will see an investment of Rs 1 lakh crore over the next seven to eight years.

The investment will be phased, with the first phase set to unfold over four years. This steel plant is part of the second edition of the Advantage Vidarbha event, which is focused on boosting industrial development in the region.

In addition to the steel plant, JSW Group plans to invest Rs 11,000 crore in a solar wafer, cell, and module manufacturing plant in Butibori, and Rs 25,000 crore in a 50 GWh cell manufacturing plant at the same location. These projects are expected to create 10,000 jobs in the Vidarbha region.

Jindal highlighted the region’s central location, which offers logistical advantages for transporting materials across the country. He encouraged the local population to leverage the plants and products to drive business growth in the area.

Furthermore, JSW Group recently entered the non-ferrous mining sector by winning a mine operator and developer contract for two copper mine blocks in Jharkhand from Hindustan Copper Limited (HCL). The group has allocated Rs 2,600 crore for this expansion into non-ferrous mining.
