JSW Energy announced on Monday that its subsidiary, JSW Renew Energy Thirteen Limited, has finalized a Power Purchase Agreement (PPA) with NTPC Limited for a solar capacity of 700 MW connected to ISTS/STU.
The agreement is set for a duration of 25 years, with a tariff rate of ₹2.59 per kilowatt-hour. In a regulatory filing, the company stated that the project is expected to be operational by June 2026. Currently, JSW Energy has a solar pipeline capacity of 3.2 GW, with PPAs already in place for 2.0 GW.
JSW Energy’s total generation capacity stands at 18.2 GW, which includes 7.7 GW currently operational, 2.1 GW under construction across various sectors such as wind, thermal, and hydro, as well as a renewable energy pipeline of 8.3 GW.
Additionally, the company possesses 16.2 GWh of energy storage capacity through battery systems and hydro pumped storage. Its goal is to achieve 20 GW of generation capacity and 40 GWh of energy storage by 2030, with an ambitious aim of attaining carbon neutrality by 2050.
Earlier this July, JSW Energy’s Chairman and Managing Director, Sajjan Jindal, announced at the company’s FY24 annual general meeting that JSW plans to increase its capital expenditure significantly over the next six years to accelerate capacity additions. The target is to raise capex to ₹1.15 trillion to meet the 20 GW and 40 GWh goals outlined in Strategy 2.0.
