JSW Cement, part of the US$23 billion JSW Group, has enhanced its footprint in Eastern India with the launch of a new cement grinding facility in Sambalpur, Odisha. The 1.0 million tonnes per annum (MTPA) unit has been developed through its majority-owned subsidiary, Shiva Cement, under a strategic arrangement with Bhushan Power and Steel Limited (BPSL).

This commissioning aligns with JSW Cement’s long-term growth strategy to strengthen its presence in high-potential markets across India. The new Sambalpur unit has been designed to meet rising regional demand, driven by robust infrastructure development and manufacturing expansion in Odisha and surrounding states.

Speaking on the development, Nilesh Narwekar, CEO of JSW Cement, said “Odisha is emerging as a key industrial hub, and our new plant in Sambalpur positions us to support the region’s rapid economic progress. This facility represents a strategic step in our ongoing efforts to deepen market penetration and scale our eco-conscious cement operations across India.”

With this addition, JSW Cement’s total installed capacity — including subsidiaries — now stands at 21.6 MTPA. The Sambalpur plant exclusively serves the operational requirements of Shiva Cement and benefits from its advantageous location near the tri-state border of Odisha, Chhattisgarh, and Jharkhand, ensuring seamless access to raw material sources.

JSW Cement is executing an aggressive expansion roadmap to build a nationwide manufacturing presence. Projects underway include the integrated unit in Nagaur, Rajasthan, with 3.30 MTPA clinker and 3.5 MTPA grinding capacity, which remains on track for timely commissioning.

JSW Cement also maintains a strong focus on sustainability. In Q1 of FY26, the company reported a CO₂ emission intensity of just 277 kg per tonne of cementitious material — the lowest in the sector — reinforcing its leadership in green manufacturing.

Established in 2009, JSW Cement has grown into one of India’s top 10 cement manufacturers by installed capacity. It currently operates seven plants across India, including one integrated unit, one clinker plant, and five grinding units located in Andhra Pradesh (Nandyal), Karnataka (Vijayanagar), Tamil Nadu (Salem), Maharashtra (Dolvi), West Bengal (Salboni), and Odisha (Jajpur and Sambalpur via Shiva Cement). The company also runs a clinker unit through its UAE joint venture, JSW Cement FZC.

JSW Cement is the largest producer of Ground Granulated Blast Furnace Slag (GGBS) in India, holding an 84% market share in FY25. Its product range includes blended cements (PSC, PCC, PPC), OPC, GGBS, clinker, ready-mix concrete (RMC), and construction solutions such as waterproofing products and chemical additives.

On August 14, 2025, JSW Cement was successfully listed on both the NSE and BSE, becoming the fourth JSW Group company to go public. With a strong distribution network and a firm commitment to environmentally responsible production, JSW Cement continues to be a front-runner in building a low-carbon future for India’s infrastructure and construction sector.
