Jindal Stainless Limited (JSL) has announced plans to advance its renewable energy initiatives, with a focus on its manufacturing facilities in Jajpur, Odisha, and Hisar. The Carbon Border Adjustment Mechanism, aimed at imposing a carbon price on manufacturers exporting to Europe, is set to be implemented in 2026. JSL is preparing for this by ensuring compliance with reporting requirements and making necessary investments. However, the company is awaiting further details on the potential impact of this mechanism.
Furthermore, JSL is making strides in reducing carbon emissions through its green hydrogen facility. This facility is anticipated to cut approximately 2,700 metric tonnes of carbon emissions annually, leading to a total reduction of 54,000 tonnes of CO2 emissions over the next two decades.
In a significant move towards achieving net-zero emissions and advancing sustainable practices in the manufacturing sector, Jindal Stainless (Hisar) Ltd (JSL) has announced the establishment of a green hydrogen plant. This initiative, with an investment of approximately ₹700 crore in green projects, is set to propel the company towards achieving 50% of its net-zero emission target by 2035.
JSL is actively engaging with automakers, the Railways, and other infrastructure companies to supply steel manufactured from its green facilities for exports. Speaking on this development, Jindal stated, “There have been discussions with our customers who are seeking environmentally friendly steel, primarily for international markets.”
He added. “We are in communication not only with automakers but also with the Railways and other infrastructure customers. The focus is on international usage rather than domestic markets.” This strategic move underscores JSL’s commitment to environmental sustainability and aligns with global efforts to reduce carbon footprint in the steel industry.
