Following the launch of the Net Zero Buildings Initiative in collaboration with the Mahindra Group, the company has unveiled plans to expand its third manufacturing facility in Pune, India. “India’s dynamic economy, skilled workforce, and flourishing manufacturing sector have positioned it as an attractive hub for businesses worldwide,” remarked George Oliver, Chairman and CEO of Johnson Controls.
“We are excited to be part of this vibrant landscape and are eager for the opportunities that lie ahead. Through our expansion in Pune, we aim to enhance our service to customers, meeting their evolving needs effectively,” added Oliver. During their visit to India from March 6-9, Oliver and Anu Rathninde, President of Asia Pacific at Johnson Controls, engaged with key public and private sector leaders to discuss strategies for expediting India’s net zero emissions goals.
This included meetings with Hon’ble Minister Nirmala Sitharaman, Minister of Finance and Corporate Affairs; Hon’ble Piyush Goyal, Minister of Commerce and Industry, Consumer Affairs, Food and Public Distribution, Textiles; and Hon’ble Minister Hardeep Singh Puri, Minister of Petroleum and Natural Gas and Minister for Housing and Urban Affairs.
Johnson Controls’ Pune plant manufactures air-cooled and water-cooled chillers for various applications, including data centers. The planned 50% expansion of the plant’s floor space will enable the company to further develop locally made parts and products that support India’s digital technology growth. Johnson Controls is also prioritizing local sourcing to enhance the plant’s operations.
Commenting on the expansion, Rathninde stated, “The expansion of our Pune facility signifies Johnson Controls’ steadfast commitment to sustainability, with a focus on supporting local growth. By incorporating the latest advancements in sustainability, we are not only expanding our facility but also establishing a cornerstone for environmentally conscious manufacturing, demonstrating our commitment to environmental stewardship and being a sustainability partner to India.”
Since its establishment in India in 1995, Johnson Controls has grown its workforce to over 8,500 employees, showcasing its investment in local talent and the economy.
