JK Tyre & Industries has announced plans to introduce advanced smart tyres for passenger cars and commercial vehicles in the fiscal year 2025. These state-of-the-art tyres will feature embedded sensors on the inner side to monitor their health, swiftly detecting punctures and providing real-time updates on tyre temperature and pressure.

Anuj Kathuria, President of JK Tyre & Industries, shared insights with BusinessLine, stating, “The smart tyres will be upgraded with the latest technology. We have a sizable share in the smart tyres market, but with embedded sensors, we will be able to penetrate further into the passenger and commercial vehicle markets. The smart tyres can update the health of the tyres through a mobile application.”

The company first introduced smart tyres in 2019, which cost ₹3 more than regular tyres. These smart tyres, equipped with sensors, offer consumers real-time alerts on tyre conditions, ensuring safer and more efficient travel.

In addition to the launch of advanced smart tyres, JK Tyres has announced a phased investment of ₹1,400 crore over the next two years. This investment will focus on expanding the capacity for passenger car radial tyres. Kathuria elaborated, “We have nearly completed the expansion of our Banmore plant in Madhya Pradesh, which has given us a 16% capacity increase for passenger cars. We will further enhance our capacity and capabilities, working on premiumisation with higher rim sizes in passenger cars. With the expansion, we will be able to produce tyres up to 24 inches in rim sizes.”

JK Tyre & Industries reported a substantial 54% increase in its consolidated net profit, reaching ₹171.66 crore in the quarter that ended in March. This significant financial growth reflects the company’s strategic investments and commitment to innovation in tyre technology.
