JK Tyre & Industries Ltd has commenced production of its latest passenger car tyre, the ‘UX Royale Green’, at its Chennai facility. This marks the first instance in India where a passenger vehicle tyre has been manufactured using ISCC Plus certified renewable and recycled materials.
The ISCC Plus certification, part of the International Sustainability and Carbon Certification framework, ensures traceability of sustainable inputs across the value chain. This development reflects JK Tyre’s broader objective of incorporating circular economy principles into its production processes.
Developed in August 2023, the UX Royale Green tyre comprises up to 80% sustainable content, including bio-attributed polymers, renewable oils, recycled rubber powder, recovered carbon black, recycled polyester, and steel wire. The product underwent rigorous testing and validation prior to its production approval.
Dr Raghupati Singhania, Chairman and Managing Director of JK Tyre & Industries Ltd, stated that the initiative demonstrates the company’s commitment to sustainable manufacturing practices. He emphasized that innovation, safety, and performance remain central to the company’s operational ethos.
JK Tyre has maintained a long-standing focus on quality and environmental stewardship. In 1995, it became the first tyre manufacturer worldwide to secure ISO 9001 certification across its full operations. The UX Royale Green extends this legacy by integrating advanced performance characteristics with certified sustainable materials. This launch reinforces JK Tyre’s contribution to environmentally responsible manufacturing within the Indian automotive industry, promoting the use of eco-friendly technologies and materials.
JK Tyre & Industries Ltd, the flagship entity of the JK Organisation, is among the top 20 global tyre manufacturers. The company operates 11 production facilities—nine in India and two in Mexico—delivering an annual output of approximately 35 million tyres.
