Jindal Steel has officially launched its first galvanizing line at the Angul plant, significantly boosting its production capacity of coated steel products. The new line, part of an ongoing multi-crore investment initiative, is designed to meet the growing demand from a wide range of industries, including appliances, automotive, infrastructure, and construction.

The new Coated Galvanizing Line 1 (CGL 1) will produce high-quality galvanised and galvalume products under the company’s well-known Jindal Panther and ZINKALUME brands. This expansion strengthens Jindal Steel’s product portfolio and enhances its ability to serve diverse sectors.

CGL 1 is capable of processing steel with thicknesses between 0.15 mm and 1.50 mm and widths ranging from 700 mm to 1,400 mm. The advanced setup is engineered to ensure superior quality and consistency across various applications, allowing for greater flexibility and precision in steel production.

Chairman Naveen Jindal emphasized that the commissioning of the new galvanizing line underscores the company’s ongoing commitment to delivering value-added, high-quality steel solutions for a wide array of industries. Jindal Panther galvanized steel is commonly used in the production of white goods and automobiles, while ZINKALUME—coated with an alloy of aluminum, silicon, and zinc—offers superior corrosion resistance and thermal durability, making it ideal for demanding applications.

The new line also introduces thinner hot-rolled galvanised coils, ranging from 1 mm to 1.50 mm, suitable for pre-engineered buildings. Additionally, the line produces high-strength galvanized steel, specifically designed for automotive underbody components, further expanding the company’s capabilities in specialized steel manufacturing.

Jindal Steel, formerly Jindal Steel and Power Ltd, is ramping up the capacity of its Angul facility to 12 million tonnes per annum (MTPA) from the current 6 MTPA. Looking ahead, the company plans to further increase capacity to 24 MTPA, positioning the Angul plant to become the largest single-location steel production facility in the world.
