Jindal Stainless, the country’s top stainless steel producer, has set up its first fabrication plant dedicated to stainless steel structures through its wholly owned arm, Jindal Stainless Steelway Limited (JSSL). Located at Washivali in Patalganga near Mumbai, the new 400,000-square-foot unit is designed to support India’s infrastructure sector, with a primary focus on manufacturing essential bridge parts such as girders.

This marks a pivotal move for the company as it expands beyond raw material supply into full-scale fabrication, offering complete solutions to infrastructure developers. The facility was officially opened by Tarun Khulbe, CEO & CFO of Jindal Stainless, in the presence of the firm’s senior leadership team.

Built with an initial outlay of around ₹125 crore, the plant is a major step in the company’s long-term strategy to provide integrated, high-performance infrastructure materials. The unit will begin with an estimated annual output of 4,000 tonnes and aims to scale up to 18,000 tonnes by FY26-27 to align with the rising need for durable, low-maintenance, and eco-friendly bridge construction in India.

In addition to boosting production, the unit is expected to generate over 250 direct jobs and positively impact more than 150 families indirectly. It will also serve as a talent hub, with a strong emphasis on skill-building in fabrication, preparing India’s workforce for the demands of tomorrow’s infrastructure projects.

“Bridges are vital links in the national economy — connecting communities, trade routes, and regions,” said Abhyuday Jindal, Managing Director of Jindal Stainless. “This plant reflects our approach to delivering complete solutions to our partners by offering world-class fabrication under one roof. It also underlines our commitment to quality and reliability in every project we support.”

Echoing this vision, Tarun Khulbe added, “There has long been a gap between top-grade stainless steel and its application in complex structures. With this facility, we’re closing that gap — bringing together material science, trained talent, and streamlined processes to support India’s infrastructure with timely, high-quality fabrication.”

Jindal Stainless has already contributed to numerous iconic infrastructure projects across India. Unlike traditional carbon steel, which is susceptible to rust and degradation over time, stainless steel offers a century-long service life with minimal maintenance, making it an ideal choice for long-lasting public infrastructure.

This new unit will enable the company to go beyond material production and directly supply fabricated components such as arches, girders, handrails, nuts, bolts, and other load-bearing and structural elements to bridge and infrastructure developers — offering a seamless, end-to-end experience.

Future plans include setting up similar fabrication units in other parts of the country to support regional demand and broaden access to high-quality fabrication solutions. The Mumbai plant will also be equipped with solar energy systems in its next phase, further reinforcing the company’s commitment to sustainable operations.

Founded in 1970, Jindal Stainless is India’s largest stainless steel manufacturer. For FY25, it recorded revenues of ₹40,182 crore (USD 4.75 billion). By FY27, the company plans to expand its melt capacity to 4.2 million tonnes annually.

With a global presence across 12 countries and operations in India, Indonesia, and Spain, Jindal Stainless operates 16 production and processing sites and maintains 10 sales offices and 6 service centres across India. Its wide-ranging product portfolio includes slabs, coils, plates, precision strips, wire rods, and other specialized steel products.

The company follows a sustainability-first approach, manufacturing steel using electric arc furnaces to significantly lower carbon emissions. Its focus remains on innovation, operational efficiency, and building a greener future through recyclable and eco-friendly production methods.
