Jindal Stainless, India’s leading stainless steel manufacturer, has deployed SAP Ariba Supplier Risk with Environmental, Social and Governance (ESG) risk capabilities to strengthen supplier management, responsible sourcing and supply chain resilience. The deployment integrates ESG risk intelligence into the company’s supplier management processes through a technology-enabled framework. The initiative is part of Jindal Stainless’ broader digital transformation and sustainability strategy and is designed to improve transparency, risk visibility and governance across its procurement ecosystem.
The new system builds on the company’s existing supplier risk assessment practices by moving from periodic and largely manual assessments to a digital-first model with continuous monitoring of supplier risk indicators. ESG-related information is integrated into supplier profiles, enabling procurement teams to identify potential risks earlier and make more informed sourcing decisions.
The platform includes supplier risk classification, questionnaire-based ESG assessments, risk scoring and continuous monitoring of risk signals. These capabilities are integrated across important stages of the supplier lifecycle, including onboarding, sourcing and supplier selection.
Commenting on the development, Abhyuday Jindal, Managing Director, Jindal Stainless, said, “Digital transformation and sustainability have become critical pillars in building resilient and responsible businesses. At Jindal Stainless, we are using technology not only to strengthen operational efficiency, but also to embed greater transparency, accountability and environmental focus across our value chain.”
The platform also provides suppliers with a centralised interface to share risk-related information, submit documents and provide regular updates. As part of its responsible sourcing programme, Jindal Stainless plans to conduct supplier awareness and training workshops and support suppliers in identifying areas for improvement.
The company will also help suppliers develop corrective action plans based on their ESG risk profiles. The initiative is expected to support suppliers, including MSMEs, in improving their understanding of ESG requirements and preparing for changing sustainability and compliance expectations.
Manish Prasad, President and Managing Director, SAP Indian Subcontinent, said, “The future competitiveness of India’s industrial sector will increasingly depend on the resilience, transparency and sustainability of its supply chains. Jindal Stainless’ deployment of SAP Ariba Supplier Risk demonstrates how digital technologies can help enterprises transform supplier risk management from a periodic exercise into a continuous, intelligence-led process.”
Jindal Stainless reported an annual turnover of ₹42,955 crore in FY26 and has an annual melt capacity of 4.2 million tonnes. The company operates 16 stainless steel manufacturing and processing facilities in India and overseas, including Spain and Indonesia. Through the new ESG risk management framework, Jindal Stainless aims to strengthen supplier governance, improve supply chain visibility and support responsible business practices across its value chain.
