JBM ECOLIFE Mobility Pvt Ltd, the electric mobility arm of JBM Auto Ltd, has secured a strategic long-term investment of ₹750 crore from Motilal Oswal Alternates (MO Alternates), marking one of the largest domestic investments in India’s electric mobility sector. The funding will support the large-scale deployment of electric buses and strengthen sustainable public transportation infrastructure across the country.
The investment, led by MO Alternates, reflects growing investor confidence in India’s clean mobility ecosystem and will provide growth capital to expand JBM ECOLIFE’s electric bus operations under long-term contracts with state transport undertakings. The transaction was advised by EY as the exclusive financial advisor, while Trilegal and Khaitan & Co. served as legal advisors.
The fresh capital will be deployed to introduce high-capacity, energy-efficient electric buses across multiple cities, helping public transport operators replace conventional diesel fleets with zero-emission alternatives. The expansion is expected to contribute to cleaner urban air, lower carbon emissions, and improved public transport services while supporting India’s long-term sustainability objectives.
Commenting on the development, Nishant Arya, Vice Chairman and Managing Director of JBM Auto Ltd, said the partnership represents an important milestone in the company’s growth journey. He noted that JBM ECOLIFE has emerged as a leading player in India’s electric bus market and that the new investment will accelerate fleet expansion across several states while improving the quality of urban public transportation.
Mr Arya added that India has become the world’s third-largest electric bus market and is witnessing rapid adoption of electric public transport. With nearly 3,400 JBM electric buses currently operating across the country, the company expects its active fleet to grow to around 5,000 buses over the next year. He highlighted the company’s integrated approach that combines advanced vehicle engineering with digital fleet management solutions to deliver efficient and reliable mobility services.
Rakshat Kapoor, Head of Private Credit at MO Alternates, said India’s transition toward green mobility presents a significant long-term investment opportunity. He observed that JBM ECOLIFE’s established market position, execution capabilities and long-term concession-based business model provide a strong platform for sustainable growth. According to him, the investment aligns with MO Alternates’ strategy of supporting market leaders that are driving large-scale infrastructure transformation.
The expansion also complements national initiatives promoting clean mobility, including the PM e-Bus Sewa Programme, PM e-Drive initiative and the PM Gati Shakti framework. Increased deployment of electric buses is expected to reduce dependence on fossil fuels while strengthening India’s energy security and supporting the country’s net-zero ambitions.
JBM Auto and JBM ECOLIFE currently have an order book exceeding 10,000 electric buses that are either deployed or under execution. The company operates one of the world’s largest integrated electric bus manufacturing facilities outside China, located in the Delhi-NCR region, with an annual production capacity of 20,000 buses.
Since introducing its first electric buses in 2018, JBM has expanded its presence across multiple domestic and international markets. Its vehicles have collectively covered more than 400 million electric kilometres and transported over 1.5 billion passengers, reinforcing the company’s position as a leading provider of electric mobility and integrated public transport solutions.
