In a significant step toward advancing India’s semiconductor ambitions, a delegation of 20 Japanese companies from the semiconductor ecosystem visited the Dholera Special Investment Region (SIR) this week. The group included senior representatives from globally recognized firms such as Shimizu Corporation, Japan, known for its expertise in infrastructure development and precision engineering.

The visit followed SEMICON India 2025, where India showcased robust policy support and fiscal incentives aimed at attracting global players in semiconductor manufacturing. The discussions underscored India’s readiness not only in terms of policy but also in infrastructure and execution.

At the ABCD Building, Dholera’s administrative hub, officials from Shimizu Corporation met with GAP Group, one of western India’s fastest-growing real estate and infrastructure developers, and the first mover in Dholera’s Activation Zone. The discussions revolved around combining Japan’s technological expertise with India’s scale, talent pool, and Dholera’s world-class smart city infrastructure to position the region as a leading semiconductor hub.

The facility for India’s largest semiconductor fabrication, a joint venture between the Tata Group and Taiwan’s PSMC, is already under development in Dholera. Japan’s leadership in the global semiconductor supply chain — spanning chip-making equipment, specialty gases, materials, and advanced components — makes collaboration essential for India to build a resilient and competitive ecosystem.

GAP Group presented comprehensive solutions, including industrial parks, residential and hospitality projects, and leasing services, offering Japanese companies a streamlined approach to enter the Indian market. Featured projects included Akhilam Township, Greenera Garden Villa near the Tata Semiconductor Fab, Avant with 1,000 premium units, Aakar Premium Studio Apartments, and GAP Industrial Park, offering 40,000 sq. m of ready industrial space in the Activation Zone.

Ambrish Parajiya, Managing Director of GAP Group, stated, “The visit by Japanese semiconductor companies is a strong endorsement of India’s vision and Dholera’s infrastructure readiness. Japan’s unmatched precision and reliability complement India’s scale and market potential. At GAP Group, we are committed to supporting this strategic partnership by providing world-class infrastructure, ensuring Dholera becomes India’s Semiconductor City.”

The delegation explored multiple collaboration opportunities, including establishing precision facilities for Japanese SMEs supplying to Tata Semiconductor and other fabs, and utilizing GAP Group’s premium studios and villas to accommodate expats, managers, and engineers. Other areas of discussion included constructing warehouses, gas distribution systems, clean rooms, and joint skill development programs to train engineers and technicians in semiconductor manufacturing.

The delegation was also briefed on GAP Group’s pioneering efforts in shaping Dholera’s Activation Zone. GAP Group delivered the first RERA-approved villa project, the first industrial park, and the first premium 1BHK project in the region. The group is set to invest ₹2,500 crores in Dholera’s real estate over the next five years and recently received a No Objection Certificate from the Airports Authority of India for its Avant project.

Dholera, located 110 km from Ahmedabad along the Delhi–Mumbai Industrial Corridor, spans 927 sq. km and is India’s first Platinum Greenfield Smart City. Its strategic location, connectivity via the upcoming Ahmedabad–Dholera Expressway, and the international airport scheduled to begin operations by December 2025, make it an attractive destination for investors.

The ₹92,000 crore Tata Electronics fab is expected to commence production by 2027, generating thousands of jobs. Additionally, major projects by Renew Energy, INOX Air, Polycab, and a 5GW solar park are in progress within the Activation Zone, projected to create over 1.5 lakh jobs by
