Jakson Engineers Ltd (JEL), a key division of the Jakson Group, one of India’s premier energy and infrastructure conglomerates, revealed plans to expand its solar manufacturing business with a significant investment of approximately Rs 2,000 crore. In an official statement, the company outlined its blueprint for establishing a 2,500 MW solar cell manufacturing facility, to be developed in two phases. Alongside this, Jakson Engineers is simultaneously scaling up the capacity of its existing solar module manufacturing plant to 2,000 MW.
This major initiative represents a substantial milestone for Jakson Engineers, reinforcing its strategic commitment to addressing the growing demand for renewable energy solutions, particularly solar power. The company’s decision to expand its manufacturing capacity underscores its dedication to sustainability and its ambition to play a pivotal role in the global transition towards cleaner energy sources.
Sundeep Gupta, Vice Chairman & Managing Director of the Jakson Group, expressed the significance of this move, saying, “This expansion not only fortifies our position in the renewable energy sector but also emphasizes Jakson’s incredible growth trajectory and unwavering commitment to sustainability. We have been consistently setting new benchmarks in the solar manufacturing industry, and this development further affirms our aim to become a fully integrated provider of solar energy solutions.”
The expansion is not just a scaling-up effort but also involves the adoption of cutting-edge TOPCON technology, which enhances the efficiency and reliability of solar products. By incorporating state-of-the-art innovations, Jakson is ensuring that its offerings meet the highest global standards, catering to the needs of both domestic and international customers.
The first phase of the solar cell manufacturing plant is expected to be operational within the next 15 months. Concurrently, the expansion of the solar module manufacturing plant is scheduled to be completed in six months. Once fully operational, this project will create 1,200 new employment opportunities in the region, contributing to both economic growth and workforce development.
This bold investment reflects JEL’s unwavering commitment to fostering sustainable energy development within India. At present, the country’s solar cell manufacturing capacity stands at a modest 7 GW, making Jakson’s expansion a critical contribution toward bridging the gap between import reliance and domestic production. This move is also in line with the government’s vision of AatmaNirbhar Bharat, which aims to make India more self-reliant in critical industries, including renewable energy.
Looking to the future, Jakson Engineers has its sights set on even greater heights, with the goal of becoming a fully integrated 5,000 MW solar wafer, cell, and module manufacturer. This vision aligns with India’s broader target of achieving net zero emissions, reinforcing Jakson’s role as a key player in the country’s renewable energy landscape.
Jakson’s strategic expansion of its solar manufacturing capabilities represents a pivotal step in its growth journey, positioning it to meet the increasing demand for solar energy solutions while contributing to India’s green energy goals. The company’s focus on innovation, sustainability, and technological advancement will undoubtedly strengthen its leadership in the renewable energy sector for years to come.
