Jain Irrigation Systems Ltd (JISL), a long-standing leader in agricultural innovation and sustainable farming technologies, has been awarded the “Smart Banana Farm-Tech Promotion Award” by the ICAR–National Research Centre for Banana (NRCB). The recognition was presented during NRCB’s 32nd Foundation Day and Kisan Mela held in Tiruchirappalli, Tamil Nadu.
The NRCB, which was established on August 21, 1993, under the Indian Council of Agricultural Research (ICAR), focuses on advancing banana and plantain cultivation through research in crop improvement, production, protection, and post-harvest management. The award acknowledges Jain Irrigation’s impactful work in improving banana cultivation practices in India and globally.
Jain Irrigation has played a key role in transforming banana farming through its integrated approach. This includes high-yielding tissue culture plants, advanced drip irrigation and fertigation systems, and the use of digital tools such as IoT-enabled monitoring and mobile-based irrigation management. These innovations have not only boosted farm productivity but also improved water use efficiency, market access, and farmer incomes across the value chain.
JISL’s contribution has supported a significant rise in banana exports, with 759,760 metric tonnes shipped in 2024–25 alone—equivalent to about 36,500 containers. Its technologies are used widely in export-quality banana cultivation, helping position India as a major global supplier.
Central to this achievement is the company’s Hi-Tech Plant Factory in Jalgaon—considered the largest and most advanced tissue culture facility in the world. With an annual production capacity exceeding 150 million banana plants, it provides the backbone for consistent, high-quality plant material for farmers both in India and overseas.
Dr Selvarajan, Director of NRCB, praised the company’s efforts “Jain Irrigation has been a key player in producing high-quality banana tissue culture plants and adopting modern farming practices like drip irrigation and fertigation. These efforts have significantly contributed to India’s growth as a global leader in banana production. The decision to present this award was unanimous.”
Commenting on the recognition, KB Patil, Senior Vice President at Jain Irrigation, said “We are honoured to receive this award from NRCB. It reflects our dedication to empowering farmers and driving sustainable growth in agriculture. The award is a tribute to every farmer who has trusted and adopted our solutions.”
This recognition underscores Jain Irrigation’s commitment to merging innovation with tradition to offer practical, scalable, and export-ready farming solutions. The company continues to focus on empowering farmers with tools to improve yields, conserve water, and enhance profitability.
With over 9,000 employees worldwide and annual revenues of approximately USD 750 million, Jain Irrigation operates 22 manufacturing plants across multiple countries. For over three decades, it has delivered solutions in micro-irrigation, piping systems, agro-processing, renewable energy, financial services, and precision agriculture. The company’s mission—“More Crop Per Drop”—drives its work in water conservation and food security.
