Jaguar Land Rover (JLR) has launched a new initiative in India aimed at collaborating with startups to develop future products and services that will shape the company’s next generation of customer experiences.
The Tata Motors-owned luxury brand has introduced its Open Innovation Hub in Bengaluru, building on the success of similar hubs in the UK, US, Israel, and Brazil. The new Indian hub will focus on advanced technologies, including artificial intelligence, big data and analytics, the Internet of Things (IoT), Advanced Driver Assistance Systems (ADAS), and sensor-based devices, according to a company statement.
“India’s fast-growing startup ecosystem and JLR’s strong presence here, along with its close ties to the Tata Group, make it an ideal location for our latest innovation hub,” said Igor Murakami, JLR’s Director of Innovation.
This initiative connects JLR to emerging talent and cutting-edge technologies through global partnerships. The Bengaluru hub will work with various stakeholders from industry, government, academia, and other sectors to develop pioneering solutions for JLR. These include optimizing batteries for electric vehicles, identifying the best locations for charging stations, and advancing ADAS technologies.
This is JLR’s fifth innovation hub since the company launched its Open Innovation Programme in April 2022. The programme has already engaged with over 2,500 startups worldwide, leading to 33 formal collaborations to date.
JLR TBSI, headquartered in Bangalore, serves as the capability hub in India, supporting the growth of Jaguar Land Rover and its four iconic brands: Range Rover, Defender, Jaguar, and Discovery. With a team of 800 employees, the hub focuses on key areas such as Advanced Driver Assistance Systems, Software Defined Vehicles, Engineering Propulsion, Body, Chassis & Exteriors, Digital Operations, Global Procurement, and Aftermarket functions. This center plays a vital role in driving innovation and excellence across these diverse domains, contributing to JLR’s global operations.
