Ishwar Chand Agarwal, Founder and Executive Chairman of the Genus Group of Companies and Genus Power Infrastructure, has been honoured with the Hurun Industry Achievement Award 2025–26 in recognition of his longstanding contribution to India’s energy and electronics manufacturing sectors. The award was presented during the India’s Most Respected Entrepreneurs Awards, which celebrates business leaders who have played a transformative role in building industries and generating long-term value.
The recognition highlights Mr Agarwal’s five-decade journey in developing indigenous technology capabilities and strengthening India’s power infrastructure ecosystem. Over the years, he has guided Genus from a modest single-product venture into a diversified energy solutions group with a global footprint, driven by innovation, operational discipline, and a strong focus on long-term sustainability.
Mr Agarwal founded Genus Power Infrastructure in Jaipur in 1996, with the vision of positioning Indian engineering and electronics manufacturing at the center of critical infrastructure development. Under his leadership, the group has expanded across several industries, including power infrastructure, electronics, cement, paper, sugar, coal, finance, apparel, and agro-processing. His experience in turning around businesses, executing strategic acquisitions, and strengthening research-driven growth has been central to the company’s progress.
A strong advocate of domestic manufacturing, Mr Agarwal promoted local design and production long before initiatives such as Make in India gained national prominence. His early focus on electronic metering technology played an important role in supporting reforms in India’s power distribution sector and the transition toward digital energy management systems.
Today, Genus Group provides more than 25,000 direct and indirect employment opportunities, contributing significantly to industrial development and economic growth. The company has continued to expand its manufacturing capabilities while building solutions that support utilities in improving efficiency and managing energy consumption more effectively.
Speaking on the recognition, Mr Agarwal said the award reflects the collective effort of the Genus team. “This honour belongs to the people who have helped build Genus into an institution rooted in innovation and nation-building. Our journey began with a belief that India should develop its own world-class power infrastructure technologies, and that vision continues to guide our work.”
Under his leadership, Genus Power recently surpassed the milestone of deploying more than one crore smart meters as part of the Government of India’s National Smart Grid Mission, further strengthening its position as one of the country’s leading smart metering technology providers. Genus Power Infrastructures Limited is a publicly listed company on the BSE and NSE and a leading provider of end-to-end smart energy measurement solutions for electricity, gas, and water utilities.
The company develops advanced metering infrastructure systems that integrate hardware, communication networks, and proprietary software platforms for monitoring, analytics, and grid optimization. With manufacturing facilities in Jaipur, Haridwar, and Guwahati and a government-recognized R&D centre, Genus serves utility markets across India as well as Africa, the Middle East, Southeast Asia, and SAARC regions.
