IOTech Systems has announced the general availability of its Edge Alarm Service, a new solution designed to support alarm monitoring and management across industrial edge environments. The service addresses the growing complexity of industrial systems that operate across multiple devices, protocols, and operational technologies, where managing alarms in a consistent manner has become increasingly difficult.

The Edge Alarm Service provides a standards-based approach to normalizing, routing, and managing alarms across different systems and technologies. It is built on the OPC UA Alarms and Conditions specification and aligned with IEC 62682, enabling compatibility with a wide range of industrial devices, including PLCs, OT systems such as BACnet and Modbus, and software-based alarm sources such as analytics engines.

The service can be deployed alongside IOTech Edge Central, integrated with EdgeX Foundry, or embedded within custom edge frameworks. It uses an event-driven architecture to process alarm data in real time and generates standardized alarm events that can be accessed through a web-based interface or a REST API.

The REST API provides full access to alarm lifecycle management, including monitoring active and historical alarms, acknowledging and confirming events, shelving or suppressing alarms, and subscribing to alarm notifications. Secure authentication and access control are supported. The service also allows alarms to be routed to multiple notification channels, including email, SMS, MQTT, webhooks, and messaging platforms, helping ensure alerts reach the appropriate systems or personnel.

Alarm definitions can be configured using simple configuration files or through the API, supporting both basic thresholds and multi-level alarm models. The architecture is designed to scale and can process alarms from multiple independent sources concurrently. For users who do not wish to build their own management tools, IOTech provides a web-based interface for alarm visualization and interaction, designed to support day-to-day operational use.

IOTech Systems provides edge computing platforms for industrial environments, focusing on open standards and interoperability. Its solutions support real-time data processing, integration with industrial devices, and scalable edge management across a wide range of use cases.
