With the ongoing advances in technologies, the manufacturing sector has already taken a lead in the direction of being smart by deploying high levels of automation and enabling data exchange across the board by the means of Internet of Things (IoT).

Believing the reports of a leading analyst firm, by the end of 2020 about 30% of our interactions with the technology is expected to be through the conversations with the smart machines. The factories are gradually transforming into smart factories and the shop floors have now become safer, productive and more innovative.

The IoT is altering manufacturing and is poised to bring in the efficiencies, productivity enhancements, safety, and sustainability. It is also meeting the unique challenges that have been faced so far. The manufacturers in India today are already using IoT for tracking assets, increasing the equipment efficiency and more.

IoT is expected to provide the Indian manufacturers with more efficient, cost-effective and competitive manufacturing. It strengthens the manufacturer's ability to meet the quality norms and other criteria. Today, IoT does provide a competitive advantage to India compared to the other parts of the world.

Accounting to the use of IoT for Indian manufacturing, there are several cases where the manufacturers have updated their means of processing the operations through IoT. A manufacturer from Maharashtra is currently using Industrial IoT to streamline its supply chain. It tracks every bit of the supply until the supply reaches the production team. The shop floor is also IoT enabled to track the position of each employee and machines sharing the data such as the temperature, seed of the components, efficiency, etc.

If used efficiently, IoT will be a strong strategic tool for Indian manufacturers to succeed on a global stage!
