INOX Air Products has announced plans to establish its first green hydrogen project with an annual capacity of 190 tonnes in Chittorgarh, Rajasthan. The project aims to supply clean energy to Asahi India Glass Limited (AIS) under a 20-year offtake agreement, marking a significant milestone in India’s renewable energy landscape.

This pioneering initiative will establish India’s first-ever Green Hydrogen Plant for the Float Glass industry, marking a significant step towards sustainable glass production. The plant, slated to be commissioned by July 2024, will have the capacity to generate up to 190 tons of Green Hydrogen per annum through the electrolysis process, powered entirely by solar energy.

INOX Air Products (INOXAP) will oversee the design, engineering, installation, operations, and continuous supply of Green Hydrogen to AIS for the next two decades. Initially, 95 tonnes per annum of Green Hydrogen will be supplied to AIS as part of the agreement. AIS will also invest in a solar power plant to supply renewable energy for Green Hydrogen generation, further bolstering its commitment to sustainability.

Rupinder Shelly, COO-Architectural Glass at Asahi India Glass Ltd, expressed pride in the partnership with INOX Air Products, highlighting AIS’s dedication to sustainability. The collaboration underscores AIS’s commitment to reducing carbon footprint in glass manufacturing and aligns with its vision for a greener future.

AIS is currently setting up a greenfield project in Chittorgarh, Rajasthan, for manufacturing high-quality float glass, with technology collaboration from its partners – AGC Europe. The agreement with INOX Air Products to establish a Green Hydrogen plant for this project is part of AIS’s broader sustainability strategy and reflects its efforts to embrace renewable energy in manufacturing processes.

Siddharth Jain, Managing Director of INOX Air Products, emphasized the significance of this partnership, marking the establishment of India’s first Green Hydrogen plant for the Float Glass sector. He underscored the pivotal role of Green Hydrogen in India’s energy transition towards decarbonization and emphasized the country’s commitment to a green economy under the leadership of Prime Minister Modi.

The project is expected to substantially reduce CO2 emissions, contributing to India’s goal of becoming net-zero by 2070. INOX Air Products reaffirmed its commitment to driving sustainability in India’s manufacturing sector through innovative solutions and strategic partnerships.
