INOX Air Products (INOXAP), a leading supplier of industrial, electronic, and specialty gases in India, has put into operation the country’s first cryogenic tanker powered by liquefied natural gas (LNG). The tanker has received approval from the Petroleum and Explosives Safety Organisation (PESO), which functions under the Department for Promotion of Industry and Internal Trade (DPIIT), Ministry of Commerce.
This milestone follows a June 2025 amendment to the Static and Mobile Pressure Vessels (Unfired) Rules, 2016, introduced by DPIIT to encourage the use of LNG as a transportation fuel. With this deployment, INOXAP becomes the first industrial gas manufacturer in India to adopt LNG-fuelled cryogenic transport.
The tanker was formally flagged off by P Seeniraj, Joint Chief Controller of Explosives, PESO, Vadodara Circle. It is powered by a 450-litre Kryopower LNG fuel tank manufactured by INOX India Limited, the country’s largest producer of cryogenic equipment. The LNG-powered system is expected to reduce carbon dioxide emissions by up to 25 percent, cut particulate emissions by 95 percent, and deliver quieter, more efficient vehicle operation, while also offering long-term cost benefits.
Commenting on the achievement, Siddharth Jain, Director, INOX Group, said the initiative marks a major step toward cleaner logistics in the industrial gases sector. He acknowledged the role of progressive government policy and regulatory support in enabling the transition, adding that the development highlights the strength of indigenous engineering and collaboration within the INOX Group.
Aligned with the Make in India vision, the cryogenic tanker and LNG fuel tank have been designed and manufactured at INOX facilities in Gujarat. The tanker will transport industrial gases produced within the state to customers across Gujarat, strengthening a localized and resilient supply chain. The initiative has also received active support from Gujarat state authorities, reflecting the state’s focus on sustainable industrial development.
