Infineon Technologies, a leading German semiconductor company, has signed its first partnership agreement in India with CDIL Semiconductors to supply silicon wafers for the production of power chips locally, according to company officials on Thursday. As part of the agreement, Infineon will provide bare semiconductor wafers to CDIL, which will then process, assemble, and package these wafers to create power chips. These chips will be used in a wide range of applications including power inverters, solar technology, automotive power solutions, and renewable energy systems, among others.

CS Chua, President and Managing Director of Infineon Technologies Asia Pacific, stated: “India is a significant and growing market, and we need partners like CDIL who understand the unique local needs. This is the first such agreement we’ve made in India, marking a key milestone for us.”

Founded in 1964, Continental Device India (CDIL) is India’s first semiconductor manufacturer, specializing in discrete semiconductors and silicon carbide (SiC) devices. Pankaj Gulati, President of CDIL, added: “By combining Infineon’s advanced wafer technology with our expertise in OSAT (Outsourced Semiconductor Assembly and Testing), we are setting new standards for innovation and localization. This collaboration will not only drive growth but also accelerate the ‘Make in India’ movement, positioning India as a center of semiconductor excellence.”

Initially, CDIL plans to produce power chips primarily for Indian customers but intends to expand its reach to international markets, including exporting to China. Infineon Technologies AG is a global leader in semiconductors for power systems and IoT, driving innovation in decarbonization and digitalization. With approximately 58,060 employees worldwide as of September 2024, the company generated €15 billion in revenue during the fiscal year. Infineon is listed on the Frankfurt Stock Exchange (ticker symbol: IFX) and the OTCQX International Market in the U.S. (ticker symbol: IFNNY).
