Infineon Launches XENSIV™ SP49 Tire Pressure Sensor for Advanced TPMS

XENSIV™ SP49
XENSIV™ SP49 Tire Pressure Sensor for Advanced TPMS

Infineon Technologies AG (FSE: IFX / OTCQX: IFNNY), a leader in automotive technology, has introduced its latest innovation, the XENSIV™ SP49 tire pressure monitoring sensor. This groundbreaking sensor represents a fusion of Infineon’s automotive expertise with their patented glass-silicon-glass MEMS (Micro-Electro-Mechanical Systems) sensor technology, designed specifically for the automotive tire pressure monitoring system (TPMS) market.

The XENSIV™ SP49 is a remarkable advancement in tire pressure monitoring. It incorporates MEMS sensors and an Application-Specific Integrated Circuit (ASIC), boasting a powerful 32-bit Arm® M0+ core, generous flash memory and RAM, Low Power Monitoring (LPM), and optimized fast acceleration sensing capabilities. These features enable the sensor to provide intelligent tire functions that elevate TPMS to a new level of sophistication.

One of the standout features of the SP49 is its ability to perform on-tire auto-position sensing, a valuable asset for drivers seeking precise information about tire condition and position. Additionally, it offers tire inflation assistance, tire blowout detection, and load detection, enhancing both safety and convenience for vehicle owners.

The SP49 seamlessly replaces Infineon’s previous generation SP40 TPMS products with its pin-to-pin compatibility. Its hardware master/slave I²C interface, along with software-simulated UART, SPI, and PWM interfaces, make it a versatile solution that supports sub-1GHz applications and is easily scalable for Bluetooth Low Energy (BLE) TPMS. The sensor, rated at ASIL-A, offers an impressive level of integration, covering all functions needed for a modern TPMS module. With its built-in microcontroller, sensors, and convenient peripherals, the SP49 requires only a minimal number of passive components to create a complete TPMS sensor unit.

The SP49 is designed with energy efficiency in mind, making it an excellent choice for battery-powered applications. Its integrated interval timer allows it to generate wake-up signals when needed. In standalone remote pressure sensing applications where power consumption is a key concern, the SP49 shines. Its Low-Frequency (LF) receiver, equipped with wake-up capabilities and outstanding sensitivity, makes on-demand pressure measurements possible, ensuring efficient power usage.

Infineon’s XENSIV™ SP49 tire pressure sensor represents a significant leap forward in TPMS technology, combining precision, efficiency, and intelligence to deliver a safer and more convenient driving experience. With its innovative features and compatibility, it is poised to set new standards in tire pressure monitoring, benefiting both manufacturers and vehicle owners alike.
