Infineon Introduces MOTIX™ Full-Bridge ICs for Smart Motor Control in Vehicles

Infineon

As automotive technology advances, features once reserved for premium models are becoming standard. This trend makes smart low-voltage motors crucial for enhancing the vehicle user experience. Automakers are increasingly seeking reliable, energy-efficient, and cost-effective semiconductor solutions that can withstand challenging conditions. Infineon Technologies AG is meeting this demand with its new MOTIX™ Bridge BTM90xx family of full-bridge/H-bridge integrated circuits (ICs), specifically designed for brushed DC motor applications.

The BTM90xx series complements Infineon’s existing portfolio of low-voltage motor control ICs, offering products ranging from driver ICs to highly integrated system-on-chip (SoC) solutions. These ICs are optimized for automotive uses such as door, mirror, seat, body, and zone control modules. Safety documentation is available for applications that require safety compliance.

The BTM90xx family provides high functionality for compact motor control solutions. Operating with supply voltages between 7V and 18V (extended to 4.5V to 40V), the devices feature comprehensive protection and diagnostic functions, including overtemperature, undervoltage, overcurrent, cross-current, and short-circuit detection. They support current limits of at least 10A (BTM901x) or 20A (BTM902x), with PWM operation frequencies up to 20 kHz.

The BTM9011EP and BTM9021EP versions are SPI variants that support a pin-saving daisy chain function, reducing system costs. The BTM9021 also includes an integrated watchdog. The BTM90xx ICs come in a compact TSDSO-14 package (4.9 x 6.0 mm) that minimizes PCB space while improving thermal performance with a large exposed pad.

To simplify the integration process, Infineon offers a complete support package, including technical documentation, simulation models, a power dissipation calculator, evaluation boards, and Arduino example code. Free software, including the MOTIX BTM90xx Device Driver and the MOTIX Full Bridge IC Configuration Wizard, is available on the Infineon Developer Center (IDC).
