Infineon Technologies AG has finalized the acquisition of Marvell Technology, Inc’s  Automotive Ethernet business. The deal, first announced in April 2025, has received all necessary regulatory clearances. This acquisition enhances Infineon’s expertise in system solutions for software-defined vehicles and strengthens its leadership in automotive microcontrollers.

Jochen Hanebeck, CEO of Infineon, said, “This acquisition significantly boosts our position as the leading supplier in automotive semiconductors and supports our strategy for profitable growth. With a broader product portfolio, we are advancing the shift towards software-defined vehicles alongside our customers and partners. The acquisition also opens up new possibilities in emerging areas such as physical AI and humanoid robotics. We are pleased to welcome several hundred skilled employees to Infineon and look forward to expanding the role of Ethernet technology.”

Ethernet is a critical technology enabling fast, reliable data transfer between components such as microcontrollers, processors, and sensors. It is essential for software-defined vehicles and holds considerable promise for adjacent applications like humanoid robotics. By integrating Marvell’s Automotive Ethernet portfolio with its own microcontroller and system capabilities, Infineon can offer more comprehensive solutions to customers.

Matt Murphy, Chairman and CEO of Marvell, stated, “We are proud of our team’s achievement in building a leading Automotive Ethernet business. Their innovation and industry partnerships have secured a strong position in this important technology area. Infineon is well-positioned to take this business forward, with the scale and customer reach needed to unlock its full potential. We look forward to seeing the team’s continued success as part of Infineon.”

Marvell’s Brightlane™ Automotive Ethernet portfolio includes PHY transceivers, switches, and bridges that deliver high-performance networking with data rates ranging from 100 Mbps to 10 Gbps. The portfolio also incorporates vital safety and security features for both current and future in-vehicle network architectures.

The business holds a design-win pipeline valued at approximately $4 billion through 2030 and has a strong roadmap for innovation, presenting significant revenue growth potential. For 2025, the business is expected to generate revenues between $225 million and $250 million with an approximate 60% gross margin. The acquisition price was $2.5 billion, funded through a combination of existing cash reserves and debt financing secured from banks.

Infineon plans to expand the Ethernet business by accelerating innovation and delivering value to customers. The entire Ethernet expertise will be consolidated under a newly formed “Ethernet Solutions” business unit within Infineon’s Automotive division. This acquisition further strengthens Infineon’s established presence in the United States, including its extensive research and development operations.

Infineon Technologies AG is a global leader in semiconductors for power management and the Internet of Things. The company supports decarbonization and digital transformation through its product portfolio. As of September 2024, Infineon employed approximately 58,060 people worldwide and recorded revenues near €15 billion for fiscal year 2024. Infineon is publicly traded on the Frankfurt Stock Exchange (ticker: IFX) and the OTCQX International in the U.S. (ticker: IFNNY).
