Spanish defense firm Indra has entered into a strategic partnership with Indian technology provider AXISCADES to produce aerospace and defense equipment in India. The agreement was signed during the Paris Air Show at Le Bourget. The memorandum of understanding was signed by Indra CEO José Vicente de los Mozos and AXISCADES Chairman Dr Sampath Ravinarayanan, with Indra Chairman Angel Escribano and AXISCADES CEO Alfonso Martínez attending the ceremony.
Under this collaboration, AXISCADES will handle the manufacturing of various Indra defense products in India. These include antennas for Tactical Air Navigation Systems (TACAN), Distance Measuring Equipment (DME) that supplies aircraft with vital flight data, and countermeasure systems that protect planes from missile threats like MANPADS.
This partnership allows Indra to source defense products and services from AXISCADES through their design, development, production, and supply chain capabilities in India. Both companies also plan to explore co-developing new products for domestic and international markets, either by adapting Indra’s existing offerings or by creating fresh solutions tailored to client needs.
The alliance is designed to boost Indra’s standing in the global aerospace sector while strengthening the capabilities of Indian defense manufacturers. Indra has had a presence in India for many years, providing systems to the country’s Armed Forces and aiding modernization efforts in civil air traffic management.
Further collaboration is being considered in areas such as Maritime Patrol Aircraft Airborne Solutions and defense programs involving the Defense Research and Development Organisation (DRDO), including Combat Aircraft Systems, Medium Range Maritime Reconnaissance, and Multi-Mission Maritime Aircraft.
