India’s First Green Steel TMT Bar: ARS Steel Partners with Epic Group and sentra.world for Sustainable Construction

India's First Green Steel

In a major leap towards sustainability in India’s construction sector, ARS Steel has delivered the country’s first green TMT (Thermo-Mechanically Treated) bar to the Trimetro Group, marking the beginning of an eco-friendly initiative for the construction of Epic Group’s advanced manufacturing facility in Bhubaneswar, Odisha. This collaboration signifies a critical step in advancing green infrastructure while supporting India’s net-zero emission targets.

Epic Group, a Hong Kong-based leader in sustainable fashion, is investing INR 377 crore to establish a green manufacturing facility in India. Designed to operate with net-zero energy and water usage, the facility sets a new benchmark in green industrial development. A cornerstone of this project is the use of ARS Steel’s ultra-low emission TMT bars, which were delivered with the assistance of sentra.world, a tech-driven startup focused on decarbonizing industrial manufacturing.

India is leading the way in defining “green steel,” with a rating system that categorizes steel with an emission intensity below 1.6 tCO₂/tfs as 5-star rated. ARS Steel has set a new standard with its emission intensity of just 0.59 tCO₂/tfs, making it four times greener than the average TMT bar and one of the lowest-emission steel producers in the country. This initiative has helped reduce the embodied carbon of Epic Group’s building by approximately 20%, transitioning from traditional blast furnace production to a cleaner, electric-based steelmaking process.

Sentra.world has played a pivotal role in ensuring carbon transparency throughout the supply chain. Using a real-time emissions monitoring system and AI-powered quality control, the platform offers detailed insights into grade chemistry and carbon emissions, enabling transparency and supporting the development of circular supply chains in construction.

“We are committed to sustainability at Epic. Our partnership with ARS Steel, along with the expertise of sentra.world, has helped us make significant strides in reducing our carbon footprint while maintaining high quality. This project sets a new standard for eco-friendly construction in India and demonstrates our commitment to a sustainable future,” said Ranjan Mahtani, Founder and Chairman of Epic Group.

“We are proud to be part of India’s first green steel project, supplying TMT bars that contribute to net-zero buildings. Our focus on quality and sustainability drives us to produce steel that strengthens structures while minimizing environmental impact. This collaboration with Epic and sentra.world represents a crucial step towards a greener, cleaner future,” said Ashwani Kumar Bhatia, Managing Director of ARS Steel.

“Sentra.world’s mission is to empower industries to measure, mitigate, and monetize their carbon emissions using innovative technology. This project has been a milestone for us, as we incorporate transparency and traceability into the supply chain, not only reducing emissions but also setting new standards for sustainable procurement practices in India,” said Harsh Choudhry, Co-founder and CEO of sentra.world.
