Chhattisgarh marked a significant milestone in the country’s semiconductor journey with the foundation stone laying of India’s first Gallium Nitride (GaN) chip fabrication plant in Nava Raipur. The ceremony was led by Chief Minister Vishnu Deo Sai, alongside Polymatech Electronics Managing Director and CEO Eshwara Rao Nandam.
Polymatech Electronics, the company spearheading the project, also announced a major expansion with an additional investment of ₹10,000 crore in the state. The plant is set to begin production soon, with the ambitious goal of producing 10 billion semiconductor chips annually by the year 2030. These will include advanced 5-nanometer and 3-nanometer chips—some of the smallest and most efficient in the industry.
The facility will focus on manufacturing semiconductor modules vital for telecom infrastructure, satellite systems, and Internet of Things (IoT) applications. The project, with an initial investment of ₹1,143 crore, is positioned to place Chhattisgarh—and India—firmly on the global semiconductor map.
The chips produced at this facility will be key to powering cutting-edge technologies, including next-generation 5G and 6G networks, high-performance computing devices, defence-grade electronics, and advanced data processing systems. Speaking at the event, Eshwara Rao Nandam emphasized the strategic importance of Chhattisgarh in this venture, citing its supportive industrial policies, quality infrastructure, and the emergence of Nava Raipur as a growing industrial center.
“With this foundation stone, we are not just starting a project—we are laying the cornerstone for India’s future in high-tech manufacturing,” he said. “This plant will support the country’s ambitions to lead in the global electronics value chain.”
Gallium Nitride is widely regarded as a breakthrough material in chip technology. Compared to traditional silicon-based chips, GaN semiconductors offer higher efficiency, faster operation, and greater durability. Until now, India has relied heavily on imports for these components.
By beginning domestic production, the project is expected to reduce India’s import dependency and attract greater foreign investment into the country’s electronics sector.
The manufacturing facility is also set to generate significant employment, creating thousands of direct jobs and potentially millions of indirect jobs. Special emphasis is being placed on training and involving local youth from regions like Bastar and other areas affected by past conflict, aiming to foster inclusive growth and skill development. The foundation for this partnership was laid during the ‘Chhattisgarh Investor Connect’ event held in New Delhi in December 2024, where the state government and Polymatech signed an investment proposal.
State officials noted the efficiency in project execution—land allocation in Sector 5 of Nava Raipur was completed in less than 45 days, followed by lease registration within 25 days, showcasing the administration’s commitment to fast-tracking high-impact investments.
