SUN Mobility and IndianOil join forces to create India’s largest battery swapping network by 2030. This ambitious plan aims to install over 10,000 swapping stations in 40 cities within the next three years. This widespread network will provide a convenient “Battery as a Service” option, accelerating the adoption of electric two-wheeler, three-wheeler, and even small four-wheeler use.
SUN Mobility currently operates a network of over 630 stations and 50,000 smart batteries across 20 Indian locations, serving over 25,000 electric vehicles. This existing infrastructure efficiently handles millions of battery swaps monthly for various two- and three-wheeler customers.
Expressing his enthusiasm for the partnership, Chetan Maini, co-founder and chairman of SUN Mobility, highlighted the company’s mission, established seven years ago, to make electric vehicles affordable and combat range anxiety and charging time limitations. Since its founding, SUN Mobility has developed a world-leading open architecture platform for battery swapping, compatible with various electric vehicle designs from multiple manufacturers. The company is now deploying this technology globally in collaboration with leading energy companies.
This strategic joint venture leverages the strengths of both companies. SUN Mobility’s battery swapping technology will be integrated with IndianOil’s massive network of over 37,000 gas stations across India, making electric vehicle battery swapping as convenient as refueling a conventional vehicle.
