Union Minister for Communications Jyotiraditya Scindia stated that India is poised to lead global efforts in establishing regulatory frameworks for 6G telecommunications technology. His remarks were delivered on the occasion of World Telecommunication and Information Society Day, observed annually on 17 May to highlight the role of information and communication technologies in bridging digital divides and advancing global development.

Scindia highlighted the rapid pace of digital infrastructure deployment under the leadership of Prime Minister Narendra Modi. He noted that within 22 months of its launch, 5G connectivity has reached 82% of the population and is now available across 99% of the country’s districts. He affirmed that India will play a pivotal role in defining the standards and regulations for the next generation of wireless communication—6G.

In addition to advancements in telecommunications, the minister drew attention to recent developments in the Indian postal system. With over 164,000 post offices and 250,000 postal personnel, India Post is among the largest logistics and distribution networks globally. He noted that new services are being introduced to modernise postal operations and enhance service delivery.

Recalling his previous tenure as Minister of State for Communications in 2008, Scindia mentioned his role in designing the Department of Posts logo, which carries the slogan “Postal Service is Public Service.” He reiterated the enduring commitment of postal workers to serve the public with dedication.

Commenting on recent geopolitical developments, Scindia responded to public calls for a boycott of Turkiye and Azerbaijan following their support for Pakistan during Operation Sindoor. He stated that such actions reflect the sentiment of the Indian population and underscore a strong national commitment to sovereignty and security. According to Scindia, the decision to boycott these countries is a voluntary expression of national interest by Indian citizens.
