CASE Construction Equipment, part of the New York Stock Exchange-listed CNH, is positioning India as a central hub for exporting construction machinery and components, according to the company’s leadership at the Bharat Construction Equipment Expo 2025. Emre Karazli, Vice President of the Construction Segment for CNH APAC, emphasized that India’s significance goes beyond just the domestic market.
“With its robust manufacturing and sourcing capabilities, India is becoming an increasingly vital supply base,” he stated. The country’s production of machinery, such as backhoe loaders, skid-steer loaders, excavators, and compactors, is now exported to over 100 countries, showcasing India’s rising role in CNH’s global supply chain.
CASE’s strategy includes a combination of fabricating entire components in India for export to CNH facilities worldwide, as well as sourcing sub-components from Indian suppliers for assembly and sub-assembly processes. This approach not only enhances cost-efficiency but also meets CNH’s high global quality standards. The Pithampur plant, the company’s second-largest production facility after its North American counterpart, plays a critical role in this growth.
India’s importance is reflected in the numbers. The country contributes around 10% to CNH’s sales in the Asia-Pacific region, with 3,500 units sold domestically, out of a global total of 40,000.
Satendra Tiwari, Executive Director of Operations at CASE, noted that fabrication costs in India are now comparable to those in China, aided by the global “China Plus One” strategy, which helps companies reduce reliance on China for their supply chains.
Tiwari added that while some advanced components, like hydraulic pumps and proprietary technologies, are still sourced from countries like South Korea and Japan, local manufacturing initiatives are beginning to supplement these imports. “Suppliers are setting up local production, which is helping make the supply chain more cost-competitive,” he said.
CASE’s growing footprint in India is supported by substantial investments in local infrastructure. Over the past five to six years, the company has invested over ₹1,000 crore in its Indian operations, particularly in its Pithampur facility, which is considered a cornerstone of its global operations.
Shalabh Chaturvedi, Managing Director for India and SAARC at CASE, highlighted plans for significant expansions, including adding new production lines and increasing capacity at existing facilities in Pithampur, Greater Noida, and Pune. The company also aims to further localize its supply chain to reduce dependence on imports.
