India Petroleum and Natural Gas Minister, Hardeep Singh Puri, showcased a hydrogen-powered bus to Bhutan’s Prime Minister, Tshering Tobgay, and his delegation, highlighting it’s advancements in green hydrogen mobility. Developed by Indian Oil, the bus represents it’s commitment to promoting sustainable transportation, according to a statement from the Press Information Bureau.
The event, attended by Indian Oil Chairman and Director (Marketing) V Satish Kumar and other dignitaries, emphasized the importance of green hydrogen in India’s clean energy future. Puri noted its’s eagerness to collaborate with regional partners like Bhutan to work toward a greener future. Bhutan’s delegation expressed interest in adopting green hydrogen technology as part of its sustainability efforts.
The company, which has been involved in hydrogen research since 2004, initially focused on hydrogen-CNG blends and has expanded its green hydrogen projects in recent years. These initiatives include hydrogen storage, transportation, and industrial applications. The company operates it’s first hydrogen dispensing station at its R&D Centre in Faridabad and has collaborated with Tata Motors to develop green hydrogen fuel cell buses.
Currently, eight fuel cell buses, including those used by the the Army and Navy, are operational in the Delhi NCR area, while four more are running in Vadodara with the support of Indian Oil’s hydrogen infrastructure. This demonstration underscores it’s broader efforts to meet its decarbonization goals and develop green hydrogen as a key energy source for the future.
