Frank Huang, Chairman and CEO of Powerchip Semiconductor Manufacturing Corporation (PSMC), has expressed strong confidence in India’s rising role in the global semiconductor industry, following the announcement of a strategic partnership between Tata Electronics and PSMC.

This collaboration will lead to the establishment of India’s first semiconductor manufacturing facility in Dholera, Gujarat. Huang views this venture as a major milestone for both PSMC and India’s growing influence in the semiconductor sector.

“I see immense potential for India’s future,” Huang said, emphasizing the country’s rapidly expanding technology landscape. With global companies like Apple increasing production in India, Huang was attracted to the country’s potential in the semiconductor domain. He praised the technological advancements underway in India, stating, “There’s a lot of impressive tech innovation happening here, and I wanted to be part of it.”

Beyond the current partnership with Tata Electronics, Huang envisions a deeper engagement with India’s semiconductor ecosystem, hinting at future investments and collaborations with local companies. “We are open to exploring areas where we can invest and work with Indian partners in the future,” he remarked, signaling PSMC’s long-term commitment to India’s semiconductor growth.

This partnership with Tata Electronics marks PSMC’s first major venture in India, and Huang is optimistic about its success. He praised the efficiency and foresight of the Tata Group, noting, “I’ve seen other countries struggle to launch fabs, but Tata’s approach is truly impressive.”

The joint effort between PSMC and Tata Electronics is set to transform India’s technology landscape. The Dholera facility, with a production capacity of up to 50,000 wafers per month, will be the country’s first semiconductor manufacturing plant.
