India Becoming Key Manufacturing Hub for Kobelco Construction: CEO

Kobelco Construction Equipment India Pvt Ltd, part of Japan’s Kobelco Construction Machinery Co, has launched its SK80 Excavator under the ‘Make in India’ campaign. The mid-segment, eight-tonne excavator was unveiled by Managing Director and CEO Takemichi Hirakawa and senior officials at an event on Wednesday.

Kobelco manufactures excavators and cranes at its factory in Sri City, Andhra Pradesh, about 110 km from Chennai. “For the past 17 years, we’ve been providing high-quality excavators to meet the growing demands of Indian customers. We’ve invested around Rs 75 crore recently, and our new SK80 Excavator marks a significant step towards indigenisation,” Hirakawa said.

With over 70% of the SK80 Excavator’s components being locally sourced, the launch underscores Kobelco’s commitment to the ‘Make in India’ initiative. “India is becoming a major manufacturing base for Kobelco, not just for domestic needs but also for export opportunities,” Hirakawa added.

The SK80 Excavator features advanced technology, an innovative hydraulic system, and fuel efficiency. It is versatile and can be used for tasks such as digging, lifting, and grading. Kobelco Construction Equipment India Pvt Ltd, a subsidiary of Japan-based Kobelco Construction Machinery Co, specializes in the manufacturing of high-quality excavators and cranes.
