In a significant development for India’s electric vehicle (EV) infrastructure, Plugzmart, a start-up incubated at IIT Madras, has earned certification from the Automotive Research Association of India (ARAI) for its EV charger.
ARAI, an institute under the Ministry of Heavy Industries, Government of India, awarded the certification for Plugzmart’s 60kW DC Fast Charger and its proprietary controller card, confirming their compliance with safety and efficiency standards in India.
“This certification is a major milestone for us,” said Vivek Samynathan, Founder and CEO of Plugzmart. “Achieving ARAI certification for our 60kW DC fast charger, particularly with our own controller card, underscores our dedication to quality and safety. It also solidifies our standing as a leader in the EV charging industry.”
Samynathan added that Plugzmart plans to introduce several new products in the current financial year, aiming to enhance its market presence. “Our objective is to offer comprehensive solutions that meet the immediate needs of the EV sector while laying the groundwork for future innovations in sustainable energy,” he stated.
Plugzmart is currently focusing on the development of high-speed DC chargers with in-house controller and PLC modules. Looking ahead, the company intends to expand its product lineup in the EV charging sector, with a strong emphasis on integrated software solutions.
As India’s EV charging technology continues to evolve, domestic innovations like Plugzmart’s are crucial in reducing reliance on imported technology, particularly from China. The government’s phased manufacturing program urges companies in the EV sector to prioritize local manufacturers, supporting the growth of indigenous technologies and domestic production.
