REDEFINE 2023, the flagship B-school case study competition organised by Cummins India has once again set the stage for showcasing the brightest minds in the country’s premier business schools. Centred around the theme ‘Unlocking the Power of Digitalization in the Aftermarket,’ this prestigious annual event has attracted remarkable participation of over 3,752 students from 938 teams across 18 elite institutions.
Aimed at challenging and nurturing future business leaders, REDEFINE 2023 combines rigorous intellectual challenges with an opportunity for students to present innovative solutions to real-world business scenarios, fostering a platform for creativity, strategic thinking, and industry engagement. Cummins India, a leading power solutions technology provider, announced the winners of its prestigious annual B-school case study competition, REDEFINE 2023.

In an impressive showcase of talent and innovation, Team Vision from the Indian Institute of Management, Mumbai, emerged victorious, winning the coveted trophy and a significant cash prize. Team Comeback from SP Jain Institute of Management and Research, Mumbai, followed closely, earning the runner-up award. Both teams have also made the privilege of participating in an exclusive mentorship program with the Cummins India leadership.
A Celebration of Digitalization and Innovation
Centered on the theme ‘Unlocking the Power of Digitalization in the Aftermarket,’ REDEFINE 2023 attracted an overwhelming response, with 3,752 students across 938 teams from 18 leading B-schools nationwide. Following intense and rigorous evaluation rounds, six finalist teams were flown to Pune for the two-day grand finale. The event offered enriching leadership talks, networking opportunities, and exclusive tours of Cummins Technical Centre India and the Kothrud Engine Plant, culminating in a jury evaluation at the Cummins India Office Campus.
The finalists presented their innovative solutions to a distinguished panel of jury members from Cummins India, including Anupama Kaul, HR Leader; Subramanian Chidambaran, Strategy Leader; and Vivek Malapati, Vice President, Distribution Business Unit and New and Recon Parts Organization. The ceremony, attended by senior leaders and employees of the company, was a testament to the spirit of young innovation.

Anupama Kaul, HR Leader at Cummins India, admired the participants’ creativity and forward-thinking solutions, stating, “REDEFINE has once again demonstrated its success in nurturing young minds and fostering a growth mindset. These emerging young leaders’ exceptional talent and ingenuity were a privilege to witness.” Subramanian Chidambaram added, “REDEFINE challenges aspiring business leaders with complex scenarios, encouraging innovative and visionary solutions. The winning teams demonstrated remarkable analytical skills, strategic thinking, and persuasive presentation abilities.”
In the lead-up to the grand finale, Cummins India organised various activities to engage and intrigue the students. A REDEFINE video podcast featuring Vivek Malapati and Subramanian Chidambaram discussed the Aftermarket Distribution Network and this year’s case study theme. An interactive leadership session and a knowledge-evaluating quiz further deepened the participants’ understanding of industry trends and Cummins’ business strategies.
The six shortlisted finalist teams included Hellios from IIM Lucknow, The Benchwarmers from Symbiosis Centre for Management and Human Resource Development, Pune, Vision from IIM Mumbai, Synergy and Inquisitors from NMIMS Mumbai, and Comeback from SP Jain Institute of Management and Research, Mumbai.
