igus, a global leader in plastic energy chain systems, has launched the ninth Vector Award competition for innovative applications of energy supply systems and cables. Engineers and project managers worldwide are encouraged to submit their projects. The competition recognizes the creative use of high-performance plastic cables and hoses in machine design, offering cash prizes of up to €5,000. igus aims to highlight engineers’ contributions to product cost-effectiveness and sustainability. The deadline for applications is February 9, 2024, and the awards ceremony will be held at the 2024 Hannover Messe
igus, a global leader in high-performance plastic energy chain systems, invites engineers worldwide to participate in the ninth edition of the Vector Award competition. The Vector Award recognises the innovative and courageous use of energy supply systems and cables in machine design. Engineers and project managers can win prize money of up to €5,000. The submission deadline for applications is February 9, 2024.
While artificial intelligence, machine learning, and Industry 4.0 technologies are widely discussed, engineers are continually making significant advancements in less conspicuous areas such as cable and hose guidance systems. Design engineers must now possess a high level of skill and expertise to meet the increasing demands of customers. These demands include hydraulic hoses that need to move over 1 km in massive machines like bucket wheel excavators, data cables capable of following complex 3D movements in factories, and energy chain systems that adhere to strict cleanroom requirements in electronics manufacturing.
To acknowledge these outstanding solutions, igus is presenting the 2024 Vector Award to recognize the contributions of design engineers who are driving innovation in the field. Their work often stays under the radar but has a profound impact on product cost-effectiveness and sustainability.
The deadline for entries is February 9, 2024. A panel of expert judges from various fields will evaluate the projects, with the winners receiving the golden vector trophy and cash prizes. Second and third-place winners will receive the silver and bronze vectors with €2,500 and €1,000, respectively. Additionally, a green vector with a €1,000 prize will be awarded to projects focused on sustainability. The awards ceremony will take place at the 2024 Hannover Messe.
The Vector Award, presented for the ninth time, has gained popularity since its inception in 2008, attracting applications from engineers and companies worldwide. In 2022, 233 applications were submitted from 36 countries, showcasing a broad range of innovative designs and solutions. The Vector Award serves as an opportunity for engineers and companies to showcase their work, expand their networks, and acquire new customers. igus anticipates an array of exciting projects in the upcoming competition.
