Hyundai to Invest ₹1,500 Crore in Modernizing Tamil Nadu Plant

Hyundai Motor India has announced plans to revamp and modernize its manufacturing facility in Irungattukottai, Tamil Nadu, with an investment of ₹1,500 crore. According to the company’s pre-feasibility report, the expansion will increase the plant’s size from 5.40 lakh square meters to 7.21 lakh square meters, creating an additional 155 jobs.

Hyundai Motor India plans to expand its manufacturing facility by adding an additional 1.81 lakh square meters to its current plant in Irungattukottai, Kancheepuram district, Tamil Nadu. The company has proposed a comprehensive revamp and modernization of the existing facility, which spans 538 acres and has an annual production capacity of 8.5 lakh cars, according to the Pre-Feasibility Report submitted on Thursday.

Under the proposed plan, the built-up area of the plant will increase from 5.40 lakh square meters to 7.21 lakh square meters, without altering the production capacity. Currently, the plant employs around 18,706 people, and with the expansion, the workforce is expected to grow by about 155 employees.

Hyundai clarified that no additional land will be required for the expansion, as the total plot size remains 21.78 lakh square meters. The expansion, estimated at ₹1,500 crore, is expected to be completed within the next five years, with construction set to begin once the necessary approvals are obtained.

In response to the growing demand for passenger vehicles both domestically and internationally, Hyundai’s expansion aims to meet market needs. The company highlighted the project’s long-term positive impact on the environment and job creation, contributing to socio-economic development through direct and indirect employment opportunities in the area.

Hyundai Motor India operates 1,366 sales points and 1,551 service centers nationwide, offering a range of vehicles, including hatchbacks, compact SUVs, premium SUVs, and electric SUVs. The company also exports to 88 countries, including regions such as Africa, the Middle East, Latin America, Australia, and the Asia-Pacific.
