Hyundai Motor India has announced the recall of 1,744 units of its electric vehicle model, the Ioniq 5, due to a potential issue with the integrated charging control unit (ICCU). The recall affects vehicles manufactured between July 21, 2022, and April 30, 2024, as reported by the Society of Indian Automobile Manufacturers (SIAM).

According to the data available on the SIAM website, the recall is necessitated by a potential defect in the ICCU, which may cause the 12V battery to discharge. This proactive measure aims to ensure the safety and reliability of the affected vehicles.

In response to the recall, a spokesperson from Hyundai Motor India stated, “At Hyundai Motor India, customer safety is our top priority. The Ioniq 5 recall is a proactive step to inspect and upgrade the Integrated Charging Control Unit (ICCU) in the affected vehicles at no cost to the customers.” The spokesperson also reassured that the company’s dedicated teams will contact vehicle owners to guide them through the recall process.

The Ioniq 5, a popular model in Hyundai’s electric vehicle lineup, has a starting price of Rs 46.05 lakh (ex-showroom). The recall highlights Hyundai’s commitment to maintaining high safety standards and customer satisfaction.

Vehicle owners affected by this recall can expect direct communication from Hyundai Motor India with detailed instructions on how to proceed with the inspection and upgrade.
