Hyundai Motor Company has reached a significant landmark, surpassing 100 million vehicles in global cumulative production. Achieved in just 57 years since its inception, this milestone makes Hyundai one of the fastest-growing automakers in the world. The company celebrated this achievement with a ceremony at its Ulsan Plant in South Korea.

During the event, Hyundai delivered its 100 millionth and first vehicle, an Ioniq 5 EV, directly to a customer. The car was handed over at the Ulsan Plant’s shipping center in a symbolic ceremony, marking Hyundai’s continued progress beyond past successes.

“Achieving 100 million vehicles is a testament to our customers’ trust and support worldwide,” said Jaehoon Chang, Hyundai’s President and CEO. “Our pursuit of bold challenges and innovation has driven our rapid growth, and we aim to keep advancing toward the next 100 million as a leader in mobility.”

Ulsan Plant, which started operations in 1968, has played a pivotal role in South Korea’s automotive history. It was the production site of Korea’s first mass-produced independent model, the Pony, in 1975. Today, Ulsan is a major center for it’s electrification efforts, with a new dedicated electric vehicle (EV) facility under construction.

Dong Seock Lee, it’s President and Head of Domestic Production, highlighted the collective efforts of its employees in reaching this milestone, calling it a stepping stone to the future of electrification.

It’s rapid growth has been supported by its premium Genesis brand, the high-performance N division, and the launch of EVs like the IONIQ 5 based on the E-GMP platform. With production facilities in countries like Turkey, India, the U.S., and the Czech Republic, the company hit 50 million vehicles in 2013.

Hyundai continues to innovate, as seen with the establishment of the Hyundai Motor Group Global Innovation Center Singapore (HMGICS) last year. This smart mobility hub is developing cutting-edge technologies, such as AI, robotics, and smart factories, which will be integrated into future facilities like Hyundai’s Metaplant America. The company remains committed to excellence and global expansion.
