Hyundai Mobis has officially launched a new, integrated research and development facility in Hyderabad, Telangana, aimed at becoming a global center for automotive software innovation. This marks the company’s third major R&D presence in India, building on its previous centers established in 2007 and 2020. The new facility consolidates its software development operations under one roof to improve efficiency and foster collaboration.

Spanning approximately 24,000 square meters, the 10-story center sits in the heart of Hyderabad’s tech district, surrounded by global technology firms and academic institutions. Designed to accommodate the growing number of engineers, the building includes research labs, training areas, data centers, collaborative partner spaces, and modern employee amenities.

Hyundai Mobis’ decision to expand its presence in India aligns with the rapid growth of the country’s auto market, which currently ranks third globally with over 5 million annual new vehicle sales. With increasing demand for SUVs, electric vehicles, and advanced features like Level 2 autonomous driving and ADAS, the new center is positioned to play a key role in supporting future vehicle technologies.

The company aims to leverage India’s strong software talent pool to boost product quality, reduce development costs, and accelerate the delivery of cutting-edge solutions. By collaborating with nearby tech firms and continuing aggressive hiring, Hyundai Mobis plans to turn the Hyderabad facility into a critical global R&D base.

The center will be involved in early-stage product development, localizing software for Indian vehicles, and applying artificial intelligence to enhance productivity and innovation. According to Jong-keun Lee, head of the center, the focus will be on advancing automotive software capabilities and driving competitive product development, backed by nearly two decades of experience in production vehicle technology.

Hyundai Mobis is also developing an integrated hardware-software platform to support the shift toward software-defined vehicles. This flexible, all-in-one solution is designed to streamline development for global automakers and reduce project timelines.

In addition to its Indian operations, Hyundai Mobis runs research facilities in Korea, Germany, and China, with plans to launch a new semiconductor R&D center in Silicon Valley later this year. These centers support specialized functions including autonomous driving systems, module evaluation, and component design optimization, forming a global network of innovation for the company’s next-generation mobility solutions.
