At CES 2025 in Las Vegas, Hyundai Mobis introduced its groundbreaking holographic windshield display technology, transforming a vehicle’s front windshield into a transparent display. The Kia EV9, equipped with this technology, is the showcase vehicle at the event, offering live demonstrations to attendees.

The standout feature of this innovation is the ability to project content such as driving information, navigation, and music directly onto the windshield, without the need for additional screens inside the vehicle. The display remains visible even in bright outdoor conditions, thanks to high brightness and accurate color reproduction. From the outside, the windshield appears as a transparent glass, but inside, it offers a clear, vivid display for both the driver and passengers.

Hyundai Mobis achieves this effect using a special film embedded with a Holographic Optical Element (HOE), which relies on the diffraction of light to project images directly onto the windshield. The technology enables a privacy mode, ensuring that only the intended viewer, such as the driver or passenger, sees the content. Depending on the placement of the film, the display can also be adapted to different parts of the windshield, such as the top, bottom, or sides, offering flexible viewing options.

In collaboration with Zeiss, a leading German optics company, Hyundai Mobis is refining this technology for mass production, aiming for a 2027 launch. The companies are working closely to perfect the display, with their CEOs, Lee Gyu Suk of Hyundai Mobis and Karl Lamprecht of Zeiss, meeting at the CES booth to discuss future cooperation on this innovative project.

Hyundai Mobis continues to strengthen its position in the premium in-vehicle display market, with a product lineup that includes high-definition QL Displays, 34-inch curved Swivel Displays, and Rollable Displays, all targeting global markets.
