Hyundai Motor India Limited (HMIL), India’s leading premium smart mobility solutions provider, celebrates 25 years of vehicle exports, reaffirming its position as the country’s largest exporter of passenger vehicles. Since commencing exports in 1999, HMIL has shipped over 3.7 million Made-in-India passenger vehicles worldwide.
Over the past 25 years, Hyundai has expanded its global footprint, exporting to more than 150 countries, with a current presence in over 60 nations. The Hyundai i10 family surpassed 1.5 million exports, while the VERNA family crossed 500,000 cumulative exports, reflecting their global popularity. In CY 2024, Saudi Arabia, South Africa, Mexico, Chile, and Peru emerged as Hyundai’s top export markets by volume, with the company exporting a total of 158,686 vehicles during the year.
Marking this achievement, Unsoo Kim, Managing Director – HMIL, stated, “Hyundai Motor India proudly leads as the top passenger vehicle exporter from India on a cumulative basis. With over 3.7 million exports in the past 25 years, we have significantly contributed to India’s foreign exchange earnings while showcasing the country’s manufacturing excellence on the global stage. Continuing its export growth, HMIL has also surpassed 1 million unit exports to Africa and introduced the Hyundai EXTER in South Africa in 2024. Manufactured exclusively in India, EXTER is the eighth Made-in-India Hyundai model to enter the South African market.
Over the years, popular Hyundai models such as the CRETA, ALCAZAR, VERNA, EXTER, and i10 have gained strong traction in overseas markets, helping HMIL achieve remarkable milestones in global automotive exports.
Hyundai Motor India, founded in 1996, is one of the largest car manufacturers in India, with a plant in Sriperumbudur that produces over 7.5 lakh vehicles annually. The plant serves both domestic and export markets, offering a wide range of vehicles including hatchbacks, sedans, and SUVs.
