Hygenco Green Energies Pvt Ltd has received the Renewable Fuel of Non-Biological Origin (RFNBO) pre-certification from Bureau Veritas under the CertifHy scheme, making it one of only two Indian companies to achieve this recognition. The CertifHy framework, endorsed by the European Commission, ensures compliance with EU regulations for renewable hydrogen and e-fuels, facilitating their acceptance in European markets.

Bureau Veritas, a globally recognized certification body, audited Hygenco’s processes to verify adherence to these stringent standards. The pre-certification paves the way for Hygenco to export green ammonia to Europe, supporting its mission to advance clean energy solutions and global decarbonization.

Amit Bansal, Co-Founder and CEO of Hygenco, described this achievement as a major milestone in the company’s journey toward energy transition. Hygenco is preparing to set up a cutting-edge green ammonia plant at Tata Steel’s Special Economic Zone Industrial Park in Gopalpur, Odisha. The plant, designed to produce 1.1 million tons annually, will be developed in phases, with the first phase set to begin operations by 2027.

Amit Ghosh, Senior Vice President of Bureau Veritas South Asia, emphasized the importance of RFNBO compliance for global hydrogen producers entering the European market. He noted that pre-certification ensures regulatory adherence and fosters the growth of renewable hydrogen and its derivatives. This milestone strengthens Hygenco’s leadership in the green ammonia sector, aligning with the EU’s Renewable Energy Directive (RED III) and contributing to global efforts to reduce greenhouse gas emissions.
