Husk Power Systems has introduced PRISM, a cutting-edge containerized clean energy solution designed to significantly accelerate the deployment of solar hybrid minigrids and commercial and industrial (C&I) systems across rural and peri-urban areas in Sub-Saharan Africa and South Asia.
PRISM, which stands for “Power Resilience and Intelligent System Management,” was developed at Husk’s technology hub in India. It has already demonstrated an unmatched capability of deploying one minigrid per day, marking a breakthrough in clean energy expansion.
The PRISM deployment has achieved significant milestones, including doubling the monthly deployment rate of minigrids and connecting 20 homes and 20 businesses to electricity within 48 hours of deployment. Additionally, capital expenditure per site has been reduced by 7%, while operational expenses have been lowered by 20% through the use of standardized pre-deployment design and testing.
These improvements have contributed to more efficient and cost-effective energy solutions. Husk plans to roll out PRISM in Sub-Saharan Africa in early 2025, including Nigeria, its key market. The company has signed a framework agreement with Nigeria’s Rural Electrification Agency (REA) to deliver 250 MW of decentralized renewable energy projects.
According to the World Bank, 160,000 minigrids are needed to electrify 380 million off-grid residents in Sub-Saharan Africa, making solutions like PRISM vital to achieving electrification goals. PRISM is also designed for C&I applications and rapid deployment in emergencies, such as natural disasters or grid failures, providing a versatile solution for a variety of energy challenges.
Manoj Sinha, CEO and Co-founder of Husk, emphasized the importance of this milestone: “The launch of PRISM boosts our ability—and the industry’s—to scale solar minigrids and advance universal energy access. Mobilizing $1 billion and our platform brings us closer to our vision of 5,000 minigrids and 1 GW of decentralized renewable energy by 2030.”
Nikhil Murarka, Vice President of Engineering and Innovation, highlighted the platform’s transformative potential: “PRISM, developed for the Global South, leverages AI to deliver affordable, reliable energy in the fastest, most efficient way.”
