Hewlett Packard Enterprise (HPE) has introduced the industry’s first 100% fanless direct liquid cooling system, aimed at boosting energy efficiency and reducing costs for large-scale AI deployments. The breakthrough was revealed during HPE’s AI Day at one of its advanced AI systems manufacturing facilities. The event highlighted HPE’s leadership in AI solutions for enterprises, governments, service providers, and AI model developers.

Revolutionary Liquid Cooling for AI Workloads

As AI adoption grows, power demands have surged, making traditional cooling methods less effective. HPE’s direct liquid cooling system, a major innovation, allows for more efficient cooling of next-generation AI systems, addressing this critical need. This technology has already played a key role in delivering 7 of the top 10 most energy-efficient supercomputers, as ranked by the Green500 list.

The newly launched fanless liquid cooling system reduces cooling power consumption by 90% compared to conventional air-cooled systems, helping organizations meet sustainability targets while managing escalating power needs. This architecture is designed to lower operational costs and carbon emissions, while also enabling greater server density and reduced floor space requirements.

Key Features of the System

The new system is built around several key elements:

  • An 8-part liquid cooling design covering GPUs, CPUs, server blades, storage, network fabric, and more.
  • High-performance design with built-in monitoring and support services for seamless deployment.
  • Integrated network fabric for scalable, cost-efficient, and lower-power connections.
  • Open system design offering flexibility in accelerator choices.

With a 37% reduction in cooling power per server blade, this system stands out as a game changer in reducing utility costs and supporting sustainable AI infrastructure.
